OLD AGE VISION

Cataract is the clouding of the natural lens inside the eye and it is usually related to the aging process. If one lives long enough, chances are that he or she will develop Cataract.

A person with an advanced stage of Cataract views the world as if through a dirty or foggy window. Glare becomes a serious problem. Reading, driving, computer work and hobbies becomes difficult and eventually impossible due to diminishing vision.

If the patient chooses to wait until the Cataract is fully mature before having surgery performed, there may be additional risks such as high blood pressure, heart diseases, diabetes, which may make the surgery more risky.

As the doctor could not have a clear view of the back portion of the eye behind the cloudy lens such as the retina, optic nerve etc, the doctor may have difficulty assessing patients with pre-existing conditions such as macular degeneration, retinal detachment etc prior to the Cataract Surgery.

If the fully mature Cataract is not treated, it may cause other serious damage to the eye, such as secondary Glaucoma or even blindness.
