VISTA has been offering the STAAR Visian ICL™ for the iContact Lens (Implantable Contact Lens) procedure since 2005.

STAAR Visian ICL™ has received FDA approval for use in the United States. This is based on many years of research and development in adapting the proven technology of the IOL (intraocular lens) used for cataract surgery. The IOL cataract procedure is familiar to ophthalmologists and is performed safely on millions of patients each year. While the technology is similar, the STAAR Visian ICL™ procedure differs from cataract surgery as the natural lens is not removed from the eye. Instead, the STAAR Visian ICL™ is placed in front of the natural lens.

The STAAR Visian ICL™ is made from Collamer®, a collagen co-polymer, specially designed for biocompatibility by STAAR® Surgical. The STAAR Visian ICL™ is foldable, allowing for insertion through a very small incision. It is placed behind the iris and works with the existing natural lens to correct vision.
