What myopia control treatments are available?
Atropine
Atropine is a pharmaceutical approach which is one of the most effective options with generally low risk in slowing Myopia progression in children.

Children using Atropine in Myopia control usually wear glasses during the daytime, and use a drop of Atropine in each eye at night before sleep. Used to control the rapid progression of myopia, especially in children with accommodative response related symptoms such as eyestrain. This lens is designed to provide the proper distance prescription and a lower near prescription to read or for any close-up work.
Designed to tackle against Peripheral Retinal Hyperopic Defocus – the technical name of an optical problem faced by most myopic children where the eyes are more elongated’ in shape compared to normal eyes. As the image on the peripheral retina is out-of-focused, it triggersmyopia to progress even faster.
Prism is incorporated in the reading addition portion of the glasses and hence, showing promising results in reducing the progression of myopia in children. These lenses will require optometrist in prescribing and dispensing after a thorough investigation of the child’s vision.
Ortho-K (Orthokeratology)
Ortho-K are specially designed contact lenses that reshape or flatten their cornea while they wear it to sleep at night and have clear vision throughout the day without having glasses or contact lenses.
