Eye Examination

Clear vision does not always mean healthy eyes.
Regardless of your age and physical health, having regular eye checks with an eye specialist is one of the most important things you can do for your health. In most cases, eye diseases do not reveal symptoms in the early stages. Early detection and treatment of eye diseases can help reduce your risk of permanent and irreversible vision loss. Clear vision does not always mean healthy eyes.
The eye specialist will evaluate your vision, check for eye diseases and problems that could lead to vision loss. Many eye diseases have no symptoms in their early stages. In most cases, early detection and treatment can help reduce your risk of permanent vision loss.
Adults should check for early signs of eye disease. As they age, the risk of getting eye diseases increases. Kids who have trouble seeing often have problems with their schoolwork but they don’t complain simply because they don’t know what “normal” vision looks like.
- Allocate approximately 3 hours for the eye examination and consultation.
- You are not encouraged to drive immediately after the eye check as your vision may be blurry after dilation (using dilating drops to enlarge the pupil) for 3-6 hours, so do arrange transportation.
- Sunglasses help to reduce the glare that results from the dilation. Do prepare one.
- An appointment is needed for the eye check. It would be more advisable if you book 2 days in advance.
- For a more accurate check of your prescription or for LASIK suitability purposes, you are advised to lay off your contact lens before the eye check (1 week for soft lens and 2 weeks for hard lens).
Common Eye Problems
VISTA also provides diagnostic examinations, treatments and management related to the following

Glaucoma
Glaucoma is an eye disease caused by increased pressure within the eyeball, which leads to damage of the optic nerves and gradual loss of vision. The increase in pressure happens when the passages that normally allow fluid in your eyes to drain, become clogged or blocked. Vision loss to Glaucoma cannot be restored.
Screenings for Glaucoma available
- Tonometry
- Ophthalmoscopy
- Pachymetry
- Humphrey Visual Field Analyser (HVF)
- Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
Age-Related Macular Degeneration
AMD is an eye disease associated with aging (age 50 years and above) that gradually destroys sharp central vision needed for activities like reading, driving, and recognizing faces.

Diabetic Retinopathy
Diabetic Retinopathy is a common diabetic eye disease which damages small blood vessels in the retina. This is due to chronically high blood glucose levels in people with poorly controlled diabetes.
Retinal Detachment
The retina is the light-sensitive layer of tissue that lines the inside of the eye and sends visual messages through the optic nerve to the brain.
When the retina detaches, it is lifted or pulled from its normal position. If not promptly treated, retinal detachment can cause permanent vision loss.
In some cases there may be small areas of the retina that are torn. These areas, called retinal tears or retinal breaks, can lead to retinal detachment.

Other Eye Problems
Some of the common and general eye problems include dry eyes, conjunctivitis, chalazion, allergies, pterygium and eye injuries.
